- Duterte warned Joma Sison would be arrested if he returns to the country
- The President said he will not allow Sison to return to his native land
- Sison called Pres. Duterte the number 1 terrorist in the country
President Rodrigo Duterte said he will have Jose Maria “Joma” Sison, the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), arrested if he decides to return to the country.
In his speech during the annual celebration of the San Beda College of Law Alumni Homecoming, the President said he will not allow the CPP founder to return home.
“If Joma Sison comes here, I will arrest him. Or if I were him, huwag na siyang bumalik dito. I will not allow him to return in his native land,” Duterte was quoted by GMA News as saying.
Since 1987, Sison has been in self-exile in the Netherlands where he is seeking asylum as a political refugee.
On Thursday, November 23, Sison called President Duterte the number 1 terrorist in the country after the latter signed Proclamation No. 360, which terminates the peace negotiations with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and ordering the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process to cancel all the talks and meetings with the group.
“Duterte is the No. 1 terrorist in the Philippines. He is culpable for the abduction, torture, and mass murder of an increasing large number of poor people suspected drug users and pushers, peasants and indigenous people in suspected guerrilla fronts and Moro people suspected of aiding the Dawlah Islamiyah from the time of the indiscriminate bombing of Marawi City to the present in several Bangsamoro areas,” Sison, the chief political consultant of the NDFP, said in a statement.
