The Lyceum of the Philippines University hopes to maintain a clean card while defending champion San Beda College will break the winning run of the opponent opening the best-of-three finals series of the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Pirates did not go through the semis and immediately went to the finals after the 18-0 record during the elimination round. This is also the Pirates first final appearance since making their NCAA debut six years ago, while the Red Lions needed to undergo the stepladder semifinals to enter the finals in 12th straight year.

Topex Robinson, head coach of LPU Pirates, shares his excitement on being in the finals.

“We know it’s our first time to be in this level, and it’s really an unchartered territory for us,” he said. “We know that we got nothing to lose, and we’re happy where we are.”

“Obviously, it’s going to be a good fight,”  he added.

Meanwhile Boyet Fernandez said that they are the underdog this coming NCAA finals.

“I know we’ve been beaten by LPU fair and square. We lost those two games,” said Fernandez, for his part. “But I still do trust my players. I know they will come out big, and we look forward to Friday’s game.”

Tip-off for Game 1 is at 3:30 p.m. Friday November 10,2017 , after Game 1 of the Juniors Finals between Mapua and College of St. Benilde.
