- The NPA admitted accidentally killing a baby during an ambush in Bukidnon
- The rebels extended their condolences and are asking for forgiveness from the victim’s family
- The NPA said the incident was something they did not foresee
The New People’s Army (NPA), armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, admitted accidentally killing the four-month old baby in a car behind a police patrol car they ambushed in Bukidnon last week.
The communist rebels extended their condolences to the kin of the slain baby girl and are asking for the family’s forgiveness, as per InterAksyon.
“The NPA-North Central Mindanao Region expressly extend their condolence to and are asking for forgiveness from the relatives of the slain and wounded civilians. This is a painful occurrence which was unforeseen. We are currently finding means to connect with the relatives and friends of the aggrieved in an offer to indemnify the said incident. Whether we like it or not, the process of continuing a civil war entails certain unavoidable circumstances such as what happened,” the rebel group said in a statement.
On November 9, the NPA ambushed the patrol car of Bumbaran Municipal Police Station, killing SPO3 Carillo and wounding three other police officers.
A Toyota Innova SUV carrying the baby and her relatives that was trailing the police car was also fired upon by the rebels. The baby was hit in the forehead.
