Portraying female roles has become a trademark for actor-host and “Transformation King” Paolo Ballesteros.
He debuted as a beautiful transgender in the movie “Die Beautiful” Paolo. He also played the character of a grandmother in the movie “Trip Ubusan (The Lolas vs. Zombies)”. And now as a woman in his latest movie entitled “Barbi: D’ Wonder Beki”.
But doesn’t he get offended whenever he is given such roles?
“No, hindi naman. I feel like a woman, charot,” Paolo answered jokingly, as per a news story by PUSH. [No, not really. I feel like a woman, joke.]
Paolo expressed he likes it better whenever he’s given such roles than just doing male characters as it becomes more challenging for him as an actor.
What can he say about the booming career of Christian Bables, his co-star in the Metro Manila Film Fest movie “Die Beautiful”?
“Deserve naman niya talaga yon. Napanood naman natin siya sa pelikula (Die Beautiful), magaling talaga si Christian. So, I think, deserve niya and natutuwa ako na nabibigyan siya ng chance and through “Die Beautiful” nakilala siya,” the actor explained.
[He really deserved that. We have watched him in the movie (Die Beautiful). Christian is really good. So, I think he deserves it and I’m happy he has been given a chance and through “Die Beautiful” he was known.]
Paolo also added that Christian has already proved to himself he’s a good actor even before he was given a good shot in the movie “Die Beautiful”.
He disclosed they still keep in touch via message; saying Christian congratulated him for “Barbi”.
“Gusto ngang manood, eh. Pero aalis ata siya, kasi may syuting din siya. O, di ba, sosyal?” he disclosed. [He actually wants to watch. But I think he’s leaving for a shoot. Isn’t it grand?]
On the other hand, when asked about Ejay Falcon, his co-actor in his latest movie “Barbi”, Paolo answered, laughing, “Si Ejay, lalaking-lalaki siya.” [Ejay, he’s so masculine.]
Ejay expressed he is convinced of Paolo’s professionalism during the shooting of the film.
“Si Pao, ‘yung pinagdadaanan niya sa set sobrang hirap, pero game siya sa lahat ng eksena kahit… Kasi pagme-make-up pa lang ilang oras na inaabot, saka ‘yung eyelashes niya na sobrang haba.”
[Pao, what he goes through on the set was really hard, but he was up for all the scenes even though… because the makeup itself takes a lot of time to do, and then his eyelashes that were so long.]
“Kapag magkaeksena kami hindi siya masyadong makatingin sa akin kasi nabibigatan siya. So, ang dami niyang sinakripisyo dito sa movie,” Ejay shared.
[Whenever we have a scene together, he could not look straight at me because his eyelashes felt heavy. So, he really sacrificed a lot in this movie.]
Then the teasing continued, making everyone at the press briefing laugh at both the actors’ punch lines.
“Nahihiya lang ako sa ‘yo kaya hindi ako tumitingin,” Paolo replied. [I was just shy, that’s why I couldn’t stare.]
To this Ejay replied: “Sobrang nakakabilib ‘yung ganyan kay Paolo, ‘yung pagiging dedicated niya. Sana nga babae na lang siya, para…,” Ejay teased during the press briefing.
[That is what’s amazing about Paolo, his being dedicated. I actually hope he’d been a woman, so that…]
But he assured everyone he’s got no feelings for Paolo! “Trip Ubusan (The Lolas vs. Zombies)” opens in cinemas on November 22 while “Barbi: D’ Wonder Beki” hits cinemas on November 29.
