Pinay weightlifter bags gold medals in 2017 Asian Senior Cup Weightlifting Championships

A 19-year-old weightlifter from Bohol bagged three gold medals and three silver medals after competing in the recently concluded 2017 Asian Senior Cup and Asian Inter-Club Weightlifting Championships held at Yongha Gymnasium in Yanggu, South Korea.

Elien Rose Perez, a third year criminology student from University of Bohol, topped the 53-kilogram women’s division where she lifted 71 kilograms in the snatch and 87 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 158 kilograms. She bested Nepal’s Sanju Chandhary who lifted 61 kilograms in the snatch and 77 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 138 kilograms.

She also won three silver medals in the Asian Inter-Club meet of the same tournament, according to Inquirer.

“I’m so happy and blessed because God gave me the opportunity to win this tournament,” she said.

Perez, a protégé of Olympic weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, said she had been weightlifting since she was nine years old.
