Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach said on Saturday that he wanted to see Manny Pacquiao retire after the eight-division champion gets a rematch with Jeff Horn, an Australian boxer.

It can be remembered that Pacquiao lost his WBO world welterweight title in a highly controversial unanimous decision in Australia to Horn last July.

“I hope that he goes forward with that fight (Horn rematch) and after it he retires from boxing,” Roach told ESPN. “It is a fight that is supposed to take place next year, and the date could not be set due to Manny’s work regarding his duties within politics in his position as senator.”

Roach said that the rematch of Pacquiao and Horn can be scheduled next year, but the exact date has not yet been set because it conflicts with the responsibilities of Pacquiao as senator.

Roach added that Pacquiao talked about retirement but he could not allow his protegee to leave the boxing spotlight without holding a world title.
