The defending champion San Beda College grabs the first win handing down to the Lyceum of the Philippines University its first defeat of the season, 94-87, at Game One of the NCAA Season 93 best-of-three men’s basketball finals on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Red Lions ignored the 12-point loss at the start of the third quarter, 57-45, before they  chipped away the lead that led to 19-3 run. The win brings the Red Lions to their 21st crown.

“I still stick to the brand that we are still the underdog. It’s not yet done. We still have to win one more game. The heart of LPU is big but the heart of my players is big as well. We are so happy to get this one,” San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez said.

Donald Tankoua led San Beda with 27 points, 20 rebounds and two assists while Bolick, who dropped 11 points in the fourth quarter, had 24 points, four rebounds, two assists and one block.

Game 2 of the Finals will be on November 16 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
