Suspected members of the New People’s Army abducted two policemen from a police outpost in Placer, Surigao del Norte, Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
Police provincial director Senior Supt. Anthony Maghari identified the policemen as Police Officer 2 John Paul Doverte and Police Officer 2 Alfredo Degamon.
According to a report by Bandera, SPO1 Zena Panaligan, who was the duty officer on the regional police public information office, said that the two policemen were on duty when they were abducted by alleged members of the New People’s Army.
The armed men forced Degamon and Doverte into the van used as a getaway vehicle.
It is believed that Degamon and Doverte were brought to the mountainous part of Brgy. Mabini, also in Placer, where troops and policemen found the van abandoned, according to Panaligan.
The Army 30th Infantry Battalion and Surigao del Norte Provincial Public Safety Company have dispatched personnel to pursue the rebels.
All police stations in Caraga were alerted after the incident, and strengthened the intelligence gathering to monitor the movements of the NPA.
