The altar, religious articles and statues of a Catholic chapel at Barangay Labo-Labo, Shariff Aguak town, Maguindanao was set on fire by unidentified men on Friday night.

Shariff Aguak Fire Officer 1 Alonto Blaim said local fire and police personnel have leads that could help the identification and arrest of the suspects in the attempted arson of the San Isidro de Labrador chapel.

According to Blaim, witnesses narrated that the unidentified men poured gasoline on the chapel’s altar, where the arsonists had placed other religious objects, around 9PM on Friday amid heavy downpour.

No militant or rebel group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the chapel which is situated right at the national highway.

Authorities said a portion of the chapel’s cyclone wire covering one of the windows of the chapel was forcibly opened and used as entry point by the arsonists.
