The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) isn’t pleased with the charges filed against former President President Benigno Aquino III over the Mamasapano incident in 2015.

The Office of the Ombudsman dismissed the other charges against Aquino including reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and only filed graft and usurpation of authority charges instead.

VACC founding chairman Dante Jimenez stated they filed a writ of certiorari before the Supreme Court to look into the Ombudsman’s alleged “downgrading” of charges.

Jimenez believes that Aquino should be held liable with homicide and Ombudsman Conchito Carpio- Morales is part of a “cover-up.”

He was quoted by ABS-CBN in an interview with DZMM, “Ang hinala ko, ito po iwa-whitewash, iko-cover up talaga ito ni Morales. She is still protecting the former president from all these charges.”  [My suspicion is it will be “white-washed” and this will be covered up by Ombudsman Morales.]

The Ombudsman earlier stated that the reason the other charges were dropped was because it “lacked probable cause.” She has recommended a P30,000 bail for graft and P10,000 bail for usurpation charges against Aquino.
