Hello, Filipino F4 and Geum Jan Di!
The Kapuso Network is set to air the Filipino version of Boys Over Flowers; the Korean drama that became very popular in 2009.
On its website, GMA Network Inc. announced that it has signed a co-production deal on Thursday, November 9, with JU Entertainment Movie and Drama Inc.; a Philippine company with Korean counterpart.
Boys Over Flowers, which is based on Japanese shojo manga series Hana Yori Dango, spins the modern-day Cinderella tale of a poor but spunky schoolgirl Geum Jan Di, who studies at the exclusive Shinhwa High School. She finds her shallow, privileged classmates unbearable, especially the notorious F4. After managing to withstand all of the F4 leader’s pranks, he begins falling in love with her.
GMA Network First Vice President for Program Management Jose Mari Abacan expressed happiness that the Philippine adaptation of the said TV series will be in the Kapuso network.
“We’re very pleased to announce that we are doing our own version of Boys Over Flowers in partnership with JU Entertainment Movie and Drama Inc. It’s a huge project and we promise to give our viewers something to look forward to soon,” he said.
He disclosed that there will be a nationwide audition to find the perfect cast for the local series.
“In order for us to find the actors who will portray the coveted characters in the series, we will have a nationwide open casting call that will give equal chance to talented individuals who want to be part of this highly anticipated project,” he stated.
“We hope that we live up to their expectations and I know the talent of the Filipinos is something to be proud of worldwide so I’m sure that we won’t disappoint,” added GMA Films and GMA Worldwide Inc. President Annette Gozon.
