Seven jail guards of the Quezon City Jail were suspended over the escape of 18-year-old J.R. Mananquil who was put behind bars just 10 days ago for carjacking and illegal possession of firearms.
As per an Inquirer story, the teen prisoner made his daring escape around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 17.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Spokesman Senior Inspector Xavier Solda said Mananquil used a spiral staircase inside the jail facility to reach the top of a nearby wall and jumped over it to escape.
Quezon City jail warden Ermelito Moral identified the suspended jail guards as Senior Inspector David Jambalos, Senior Jail Officer 1 (SJO1) Dominador Zacarias, Jail Officer 2 (JO2) Antonio Ravago, JO1 Verdion Sayson, JO1 Ronnie Abugadie, JO1 Jhomer Balila and SJO4 Remegino Mina.
The jail guards’ suspension would pave the way for a full blown investigation, according to Moral.
