MANILA, Philippines – Less than 24 hours after appearing at the Senate, former President Benigno ‘Noy’ Aquino is facing charges of mass murder and plunder filed against him by former Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) general manager Augusto Syjuco Jr.
Syjuco filed the complaints against Aquino on Friday morning before the Office of the Ombudsman. Also included in the rap sheet as co-respondent is former Health Secretary Janette Garin.
The former Iloilo Representative, who once sued Aquino for alleged corruption at the Department of Agriculture (DA) two years ago, presented newspaper clippings as evidence in his complaint.
“I have put together a compendium of newspaper articles and reports and I have put together 22 of these reports,” Syjuco told reporters.
Describing the Dengvaxia controversy as a repeat of Mamasapano, Syjuco asked the Ombudsman to investigate the two former officials.
“I am asking the Ombudsman to investigate. Do I have all the proof in the world? No, I don’t. As a citizen all I have to do is complain,” he said.
On Thursday, Aquino appeared before the Senate investigation to air his side on the controversial P3.5-B dengue vaccine program.
In defense of his decision to authorize the release of the fund, the former president said it was a decision he made to address the rising cases of dengue back then.
