Following a temporary suspension of flights due to Tropical Storm Urduja, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Saturday that the Tacloban Airport is set to resume normal operations on December 17, 5AM.

Also, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Saturday evening that despite some minor damage, all Region 8’s (Eastern Visayas) airports are operational. The airports referred to are:

  • Biliran
  • Borongan
  • Calbayog
  • Catarman
  • Catbalogan
  • Hilongos
  • Guiuan
  • Maasin
  • Ormoc
  • Tacloban

Tacloban Airport operations were canceled on Friday noon because of strong winds which knocked down trees; blocking the airport’s access road. Several building facilities were also damaged, said the DOTr.

Urduja made landfall over Eastern Samar early Saturday afternoon, with at least 10 areas, including Leyte, placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2.

The Philippine Air Force and Army also helped in clearing out debris scattered by the severe weather and to restore perimeter cyclone fences.
