MANILA, Philippines  –  The main suspect in the killing of a businessman in Davao City in 2016 has been arrested in Quezon City by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday, November 29.

The authorities arrested Nolan Macansantos alias Nicco Santos, a freelance model, inside a condominium unit in Grass Residences in Barangay Sto. Cristo. He has a standing warrant of arrest for the murder of Florence Quijada in November 2016.

Quijada, a 40-year-old businessman engaged in buy-and-sell of cars and casino financing, was found dead floating in Agusan River, Purok 7, Monkayo in Compostela Valley in November 10 last year; three days after he disappeared.

Macansantos and Quijada were believed to be live-in partners, but the suspect vehemently denied this.

He also denied killing Quijada whose body bore no signs of gunshot or stab wounds. However, the Compostela police immediately suspected foul play since the victim’s head was wrapped in cloth.

The suspect has since disappeared and went into hiding for a year before his arrest this week.

He told the police he went into hiding because of his ‘emotions’ at that time and out of fear after being tagged as the main suspect in the crime.

Macansantos vowed to cooperate with police to prove his innocence.
