Beauty for a cause —  Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco continues to make her advocacy for mother nature as she delivered a welcome message at the first “Kasugbong Kalibutan” international climate change conference on Thursday, December 7, in Catbalogan, Samar.

Part of her speech tackles the reality of climate change to her, which is why she said: “…I’m using this platform to share my voice as Miss Earth.”

She hoped that the “conference be maximized to share each and every one’s expertise and experience to help better understand the steps to be taken [against climate change].”

Ibasco is a medical physicist by profession. She was crowned Miss Earth 2017 in Manila last November. She has since become very vocal about the promotion of the use of renewable energy as her advocacy.

Her winning speech during the pageant’s question round stressed that the biggest enemy of Mother Earth is not climate change, but people’s ignorance and apathy.

She encouraged everyone to start to change their ways, recalibrate their minds, and redirect their steps because she believes that “together, as a global community, our micro-efforts will have a macro-effect to help save our home, our planet.”
