- DOLE started issuing the OFW ID card called iDOLE
- Some social media users criticized the inclusion of President Duterte’s image on the ID card
- Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said the President probably would not have approved of the card’s design
Social media users criticized the inclusion of President Rodrigo Duterte’s photo on the government-issued identification cards for the overseas Filipino workers (OFW) called iDOLE.
A sample of the OFW ID card bearing the President’s image was posted by Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson on her Facebook page.
Some netizens who commented on Uson’s post called the President “epal.” Being “epal” is a Filipino slang that means shameless self-promotion, especially of politicians.
“Can we make it fair and square by removing Mr. Duterte’s image so that the OFW can have a peaceful and stress-free life? This is totally wrong! It’s better to put the HEROES, or the flag…but Duterte’s image? My goodness! What is happening to our country?” a Facebook user said, as per an ABS-CBN story.
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the card’s design was an initiative of his department.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said he will clarify the matter with President Duterte; adding the President probably would not approve of it.
