MANILA, Philippines  –  After the video of the alleged slapping incident between an elderly taxi driver and a female motorist went viral, Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan has weighed in on the bashing the woman has been receiving from haters.

In a series of tweets, the lawmakers said that while Cherish Sharmaine’s action is definitely uncalled for, it is also not right for netizens to curse, insult and even threaten the woman.

Senator Pangilinan also called out those who maligned Interior on social media, especially those who do not even know the woman personally.

“We cannot defeat the wicked with wickedness nor the cruel with greater cruelty because in the end only wickedness and cruelty triumph,” wrote the Liberal Party stalwart.

Pangilinan agrees with many netizens that Interior is obviously on the wrong side and should apologize and be held liable for her actions.

However, he said: “Subalit sa tindi ng galit natin sa ginawa ni Cherish nagawa ng ilan sa atin na manakot, manlait, magbanta, mang-insulto at manakit ng kapwa. Ano ang pinagkaiba natin kay Cherish?”

[But at the height of our anger to what Cheris did, many of us have resorted to threats, insults, slander and hurtful acts. Now, how different are we from Cherish?”]

Interior has been the subject of hateful comments and bashing on social media after the video of the incident went viral. She has since made efforts to air her side, despite some post claiming she has issued an apology.

On Tuesday, Virgilio Doktor, the 52-year-old taxi driver who was allegedly slapped by Interior formally filed charges of physical injury, unjust vexation, and malicious mischief against the woman at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
