- UST alumni association to call meeting following uproar over Asec’s award
- Alumni prexy confirmed that Uson’s award will be among the issues to be tackled
- He also defended association’s decision to give her the award
MANILA, Philippines – The president of the UST Alumni Association Inc. (USTAAI) has confirmed an emergency meeting among its members following an uproar over the group’s decision to award Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
According to Henry Tenedoro, the meeting will take place on Tuesday evening. However, he also refused to give further details other than Uson’s award will just be among the many concerns to be tackled by the USTAAI.
“Many concerns will be tackled,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying.
Tenedoro also explained any subsequent actions to be taken by the association with regards to Uson’s award must be decided by it as a whole and not just by a single individual.
“Pero ang one thing na puwede kong sabihin we have a listening board, listening with heart, ears and mind na kung ano man ang maging pasya ng board ay susundin,” he said.
[But I can say we have a listening board, listening with heart, ears and mind that whatever the board decides then we will follow.]
Nevertheless, Tenedoro said he will continue to stand by the USTAAI’s decision to give Uson the award despite the criticism being hurled at them.
“Ang turo kasi ng magulang ko sa akin, magmahal at magrespeto ka ng tao maging sino ka man. ‘Wag mo mamahalin ang taong matalino, mataas ang IQ, magaling etc., at kapag ako ay nagsisimba, ‘yan din ang naririnig ko sa mga homily o sermon ng mga pari na kailangan love thy neighbor,” he said.
[What my parents taught me, is to love and respect a person regardless of you who become. Don’t just love the smart people, those who have high IQ, are competent, etc., and when I’m in church, I also hear from the homily or sermon of the priest that you should love your neighbor.]
