- Asa Miller is the only Philippine delegate to pass the requirements to compete in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics
- He set up a Gofundme page to try and raise funds to pay for his expenses
Asa Miller will be the only delegate who will be raising the Philippine flag this coming 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
17-year-old Fil-American will be competing in the slalom ski event. He is currently racing for Meadows Race Team at Mt. Hood, Oregon U.S.A. and have been with them for the last nine years.
Unfortunately, Miller will be joining the Winter Olympics with no support from the Philippine government, so he is trying to raise as much funds as he could. He explained that “The funds would be used to cover expenses incurred during my journey to qualification. This ranges from equipment costs to race entry fees. I leave February 5th, anything would be appreciated!”
On his GoFundMe page, he described his road to the Olympics: “The road to qualification has not been easy, I’ve faced many frustrating days and have learned a lot in the process. Over the last year and a half, I’ve been refining my mental and skiing skills, helping me respond to mistakes and challenges. These life lessons are valuable and are applicable on and off the race course.”
The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will be held in South Korea. It will open on February 9, 2018.
