  • Brother Mike Velarde’s commercial building located at Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City caught fire
  • Velarde is the founder and “Servant Leader” of a Philippine-based Catholic Charismatic religious group called El Shaddai

According to Supt. Robert Pasis of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started in a grocery store on Saturday early morning at around 1 a.m.

The 4-hour fire damage reached over P2 million, but no casualties were recorded as of this posting.

About 100 tenants — grocery store, electronics store, canteen and offices — were renting and working in different establishments inside the building.

According to Rodante Dela Cruz, the building security guard, he heard some explosions and some noise before 1 a.m..

He pulled out his gun and roamed the area as he suspected to see thieves but he was shocked when he saw the burning establishment.

The BFP had a hard time putting out the fire due to the highly combustible debris and flammable items in the area.

Pacis also said the building owner might be liable if further investigation proves violation of the Fire Code of the Philippines.
