Five-time NBA Champion Dennis Rodman was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in California on Saturday night, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.
According to Lieutenant Rachel Johnson of the Newport Beach Police Department, the 56-year-old former NBA player was pulled over at 11:11 pm Saturday for a vehicular violation.
The former NBA champion failed a breathalyzer test given on the scene but he was completely cooperative with the police procedure, Johnson said.
Rodman has a history of alcohol abuse. He was required to attend an alcohol program in July 2000 after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. He also checked into a rehabilitation facility in January 2014.
“Dennis is taking this seriously, and will take positive steps to address his personal issues,” Rodman’s attorney, Paul S. Meyer, said in a statement to NY Daily News. “He appreciates the professionalism of the Newport Beach Police Department.”
