- Former SBMA chairman Martin Diño has been appointed as Undersecretary of DILG
- His appointment was signed by President Duterte on Monday, January 8
- It came barely 4 months after stepping down from SBMA following a turf war with administrator Wilma Eisma
MANILA, Philippines – Former Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Martin Diño has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as Undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Diño, former chairman of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) and a partymate of Duterte, stepped down as chairman of SBMA in September following a turf war with SBMA administrator Wilma Eisma who eventually assumed his post.
He later announced he accepted Duterte’s offer for the position of DILG Undersecretary for barangay affairs.
Diño’s appointment was signed last Monday, January 8, but was only released to the media on Tuesday.
He was a presidential candidate in the 2016 elections, but withdrew and nominated Duterte as the substitute standard-bearer of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
He was later appointed by Duterte to head the SBMA in September 2016.
Diño also once served as barangay chairman in Quezon City.
