- The MMDA said the “late-open late-close” operating hours of malls along EDSA was effective in easing traffic along the major thoroughfare
- The “holiday operating hours” is effective only until January 15
- The MMDA is requesting mall operators to extend said operating hours
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the “late-open late-close” operating hours of shopping malls along EDSA was effective in easing vehicular traffic in the major thoroughfare during the holiday season.
As mentioned in GMA News, the MMDA said traffic along EDSA was faster by 10% when shopping malls adjusted their operational hours from 10am-to-9pm to 11am-to-10pm since October.
Under the agreement of the mall operators with the Department of Transportation and the MMDA, the said operating hours is effective only until January 15.
The MMDA is requesting mall owners to extend it, but they refused, saying their sales was negatively affected.
“Unfortunately, yung ilan sa kanila nagsasabi na nagkaroon ng problema sa sales so ang nire-request na lang ho ng MMDA dito, gusto natin makakuha ng figures. Gusto namin malaman kung gaano ba ‘yung ibinaba sa sales,” MMDA spokerperson Celine Pialago said.
[Some of them claimed there had been problems in sales so the MMDA is requesting to get the figures. We’d like to know how much the decrease in sales was]
