- LRT-2 offers free unlimited train rides to all active soldiers
- The soldiers’ AFP ID serves as their access pass to free train rides
- The AFP expressed its gratitude to the LRT2 for its show of support to soldiers
All active soldiers, even in civilian attire, can ride the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) trains for free. All they need to do is present their Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) identification cards to the teller.
As mentioned in an InterAksyon story dated January 20, 2018, the AFP and the Light Rail Transit Authority signed a memorandum of agreement last December 2017 for the free rides in recognition of the soldiers’ sacrifices.
The MOA stipulates that the AFP IDs serve as the soldiers’ access pass to the LRT-2 trains.
“We are very thankful to the LRT Authority for their show of support to our troops in performing their duties. This is a big help to our soldiers. This certainly boosts the morale of our troops and gives us more reason to perform better in our mandate of serving the people and protecting the state,” AFP chief of staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero said.
The MOA took effect on Saturday, January 20 and will last until December 2018, according to the Inquirer.
