A regional deputy secretary of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) along with his wife surrendered to the Army in South Cotabato.

The NPA official was identified to be Noel Minioto Legazpi alias Efren and wife, Jeanalyn Defensor Bendalian, alias Wendy.

Captain Gary Dida, civil military operations head of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, confirmed with GMA that Legazpi was the deputy secretary of the CPP-NPA’s Far South Mindanao Region while his wife was a member of the medical team of the rebel unit.

The two admitted they had finally given up and realized that the communist rebellion will not win against the government.

Dida added that it was through the help of South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes that the two rebels surrendered peacefully. It was on December 2017 when President Duterte declared the CPP-NPA as a terrorist group and abolished all peace talks with them.
