- President dared former professor to come home and fight
- He slammed communist ideology as outdated, said Reds have lost touch with reality
- He also urged gov’t forces to totally destroy the NPA just like the drug syndicates
MANILA, Philippines – Showing yet another indication of his falling out with his former professor, President Rodrigo Duterte dared Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison to come home and face him man-to-man.
“Magkita tayo, Sison sampalin kita, tingnan mo. Sige, umuwi ka, tikim ka talaga sa akin,” ABS-CBN quoted him as saying. [When I see you Sison I’ll slap you, you’ll see. Go ahead, go home and get a taste from me.]
A self-proclaimed socialist, Duterte slammed the CPP and its armed wing the New People’s Army (NPA) for continuing to engage the government in a protracted conflict; saying they have lost touch with the realities on the ground.
“Makakita kayo ng armas maglalaway-laway lang kayo, ngayon you’re holding and you think that you are God. Kayo magrebolusyon, it’s 50 *expletive* years. Nakikinig pa ako kay Sison noon. Walang nangyari hanggang ngayon,” he said.
[To you who are fighting a revolution, it’s 50 *expletive* years. I was listening to Sison then. Nothing happened up to now.]
“I used to listen to that Sison. But there is a time na idealistic ka, but there is a time na praktikal ka,” he added.
[I used to listen to that *expletive* Sison. But there is a time when you were idealistic, but there is a time when you have to be practical.]
“I used to provide the moderation. Pero ngayon, ako na tapos ganito ang sitwasyon tatapusin ko talaga ito. Ang aking orders, wala akong pakialam diyan sa inyo,” he said.
Duterte also ordered government forces to fight the Reds the same way it is fighting the drug syndicates.
“Just like drugs, dito sa giyerang ito destroy the NPA. Destroy the organization,” he said. [Just like drugs, destroy the NPA in this war. Destroy the organization.]
