Do you still remember the original Power Rangers Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, Zack, and Tommy?
After over two decades, many things have happened in the lives of our “childhood heroes”.
On Facebook, Who Remembers? shared a video report about what happened to the actors who played the role of the original Power Rangers.
Austin St. John portrayed Jason; the leader of the Power Ranger who’s been called the best Red Ranger of all time. St. John left Mighty Morphin Power Rangers halfway through the second season after a pay dispute. He, however, remains fairly close to the franchise. He appeared as the Gold Ranger in Power Rangers ZEO and has been making additional cameos in other spin-offs. He wrote a book titled Karate Warriors: A Beginner’s Guide to Martial Arts. At present, he is still saving lives by working as a paramedic in Washington D.C.
Amy Jo Johnson played the Pink Ranger Kimberly, who was everyone’s crush back then. She left the show to pursue other acting jobs. She has appeared in Saved By The Bell, Flashpoint, ER, and Covert Affairs. She has also released three studio albums, directed short films, and been nominated and won for number of awards.
David Yost portrayed Blue Ranger Billy and starred in over 200 episodes of the first four seasons, as well as the 1995 movie. In 2010, he revealed that he left the show due to the harassment he endured from members of the production crew that was directed at him due to his sexual orientation. He said he became extremely depressed and was even hospitalized after a nervous breakdown. Later on, he produced shows like Alien Hunter, Temptation Island, You Are What You Eat, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Thuy Trang played the role of Yellow Ranger Trini for one and a half seasons. Like the actor playing the Red Ranger, she left the show amidst pay disputes. Trang played the villain in The Crow: City of Angels. She also appeared in Spy Hard. Sadly, Trang passed away in a car crash. An episode of Power Rangers: Time Force was dedicated to her memory.
Walter Jones portrayed the Black Ranger Zack, the original team’s second-in-command. He also left the show after a contract and a pay dispute. He, on the other hand, came back and lent his voice to some of the monsters. Jones appeared in Family Matters, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, NYPD blue, CSI, and The Shield. In 2016, he appeared as “Angry Fan” in the Lonely Island movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
Jason David Frank was the Green Ranger Tommy. Frank had a pretty successful career in and outside the Power Ranger universe. After the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, he returned to don new colored Ranger outfits, becoming Red Zeo Ranger, Red Turbo Ranger, and Black Dino Ranger, among others. He also reprised his role as Green Ranger to take on Street Fighter’s Ryu in another excellent episode of Super Power Beat Down. He also spent a little time in the professional MMA world; winning a number of fights.
