- After the release of the first trailer for Bagani starring Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano, some pointed out its similarities to GMA 7’s ‘Encantadia’
- The writer of the show was quick to deny copying anything from ‘Encantadia’
- Enrique emphasized that they’re not copying anyone, thus it’s very original
The trailer for ABS-CBN’s upcoming fantaserye entitled ‘Bagani’ has just been released and some people are comparing it to GMA 7’s ‘Encantadia’.
Bagani is lead by the love team Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil together with Matteo Guidicelli, Sofia Andres, Makisig Morales and Diether Ocampo.
As shown in the trailer, Enrique plays the role of Lakas, who trains tribe members including Ganda, the character played by Liza.
Because of the show’s theme involving local gods and goddesses, a few people pointed out its similarities to ‘Encantadia’ of GMA-7 which was remade just last year.
Suzette Doctolero, GMA consultant and creator of Encantadia, was quoted comparing the costume in Bagani to those used in circus shows.
The headwriter for ABS-CBN Star Creatives, Mark Duane Angos didn’t let the comment slip and responded by reminding people of Suzette’s other show ‘Alyas Robin Hood’ that theirs was also apparently a rip off of the Hollywood series ‘Arrow’.
During a press conference for Samsung held last February 13 in Taguig, Enrique was also asked about the issue. According to him, they are epic for a reason. He added that they are just doing what they want to do: tell a good and great story, an epic story for people.
He then emphasized that they are not copying anyone and said, “It’s very original. It’s something new and something very close to our hearts.”
Enrique revealed that this project has been a long time coming and they have only started last year. Most of the shots were taken in Ilocos. The trailer indicates that the series will start airing in March while the ongoing series La Luna Sangre is down to its last three weeks.
