- Eight time Grammy Award Winner Fergie sung the US National anthem during the NBA All-Star game sunday
- Her jazzy slowed-down rendition have been ridiculed online
- She has apologized for her performance saying that her rendition didn’t strike the intended tone
Singer Fergie admits she took a risk Sunday night when she sang the American national anthem, and that her interpretation did not yield the expected results.
It’s fair to say that Fergie’s version of a slowed-down jazzy version of the American Anthem Star-Spangled Banner performed during the NBA All-Star game did not sit well with everyone.
And now the Black Eyed Peas member has apologized for her performance.
“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best,” she said via TMZ.
This is not the first time Fergie has sung the US national anthem in public.
In 2009, she performed the Star-Spangled Banner in front of the Obamas at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll.
Needless to say, it was a much more traditional rendition and attracted far less attention.
