An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was traumatized after a customer in a fastfood restaurant where he was working strangled him.
Jonathan Estil Reyes, a shift manager of a fastfood chain, said he feels afraid every time he reports to work after the incident with the customer that took place on January 23.
Reyes recounted that an Arab man ordered food from his co-worker, but he was the one who prepared and served the food to the customer. He said the customer went to the second level of the restaurant to eat.
But when the Arab customer went down, he grabbed Reyes and strangled him.
“Ang translate sa akin ng Saudi kong crew, tinuturo niya ‘yung chicken. May dura daw po. Although half consumed na pagkain niya, gusto niyang ibalik pera niya,” Reyes said.
[As translated by my Saudi crew, the customer was complaining about the chicken. He claimed the chicken has spit. Although the food was half-consumed, he wanted his money back.]
“Ang gusto ko pong mangyari, pauwiin na lang po ako sa Pinas, makasama ko nanay ko. Takot na takot na talaga ako dito,” Reyes said.
[I want them to allow me to go home to the Philippines…to be with my mother. I’m really so scared here now.]
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) vowed to do everything to bring Reyes home.
