The parish priest of Guiuan in Eastern Samar and his assistant priest figured in separate road accidents only an hour apart on Monday afternoon, February 12, after attending a clergy meeting and recollection in Borongan City.

As per a story by Inquirer, Fr. Moises Mel Campo, the parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Guiuan, was killed when his Ford Ranger pickup truck with plate number FXS 790 was hit by a wayward truck that was said to have lost its brake at around 3:50 p.m. along Barangay Naparaan, Salcedo town, Eastern Samar.

The priest was rushed to Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The truck driver fled the scene and remains at large.

An hour earlier, Fr. Campo’s assistant priest Fr. Edmel Montallana, was driving his car, a Hyundai Accent with plate number UOL 894, when he lost control of the steering wheel. The car burst into flames after ramming an electric post along Barangay Anuron in Mercedes town.

Fr. Montallana was pulled out from his burning car by other motorists. He suffered burns in some parts of his body.
