- Senator Sonny Angara urged the government to create high-paying jobs for Filipinos
- Angara said high-paying jobs would prevent Filipinos from seeking employment overseas
- The senator filed a Senate resolution to review the labor policies of the government
Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara urged the government to create high-paying jobs that are adequate for the current inflation rate; saying they are the answer to the problems of displaced overseas Filipino workers after the total deployment ban of Filipino workers to Kuwait was enforced.
According to Radyo Inquirer, the senator said that if the government really wanted to dissuade Filipinos from finding employment overseas, high-paying jobs should be made available for them here in the country.
Sen. Angara, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor, said a lot of Filipino workers were affected by President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to ban deployment of workers to Kuwait because of the abuses committed against them by employers.
Recently, the President announced that he might extend the deployment ban of Filipino workers to other countries.
The senator is wondering if there are jobs waiting for OFWs who will be repatriated from Kuwait. He also filed a Senate resolution to review the labor policies of the government to make sure there are jobs here for the Filipinos in order to prevent them from seeking employment abroad.
