14 Vietnamese fishermen were arrested by the authorities for poaching in Occidental Mindoro waters, the police said Thursday.
Spokesperson of Mimaropa regional police, Supt. Imelda Tolentino, said that the fishermen have been arrested after two fishing vessels were spotted by the authorities in a seaborne patrol around 1 a.m. in Paluan town, Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday.
The seaborne operation was a joint effort by the Paluan Municipal Police Station, Bantay Dagat of Paluan, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mimaropa and the Army’s 76th Infantry Battalion.
The two vietnamese vessels had seven crew each and were only identified by the names Long, Teo, Quang, Huy, Twan, Minh, Tua, Huy, Hung, Phu, Huang, Binh, Kinhao, and Hiew.
The arrested persons were brought to Mamburao Municipal Police Station for proper disposition of BFAR 4B.
Meanwhile, the fishing boats were brought to Tayamaan Port in Mamburao.
