5 killed in Cagayan de Oro fire

MANILA, Philippines – A blaze that gutted a house in Cagayan de Oro over the weekend has left 5 people, including 4 siblings, dead.

Among the victims, as per GMA News, were identified as Mark Kenneth Cerillo, 21 years old  and his siblings – Louie, 10, Michelle, 13, Mary Grace, 12. The fifth victim, Connie Nandon, 21, is said to be Mark’s girlfriend.

Initial investigation said 3 of the victims were trapped in a room in their two-story house located at Corrales Extension, District 3, Barangay Puntod last Saturday evening.

Mark Kenneth’s body was discovered in the kitchen while his girlfriend was found inside the bathroom.

Authorities said there was only one door out of the house, making it difficult for the victims to escape due to the confined space.

Four others – Melody and Mary Joy Cerillo, Jun and Lilibeth Carillo were likewise injured and sustained third degree burns.

The blaze was finally declared fire out around 2 am the next day. Fire officials estimated the damage to be around P100,000.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of fire.
