- The very first Jollibee outlet in Europe officially opened its doors in Milan, Italy on March 18
- The store has an all-Filipino crew with genuine Pinoy hospitality
- Labor secretary Silvestre Bello III hopes the food company will expand to other parts of the continent to give more job opportunities to OFWs
After a long wait for the store completion and not to mention the long line outside, homesick Filipinos, other tourists and Italian nationals were finally able to eat the “crispylicious, juicylicious Chickenjoy” and that sweet Filipino-style Jolly Spaghetti as the very first Jollibee store officially opened in Milan, Italy on March 18, 2018.
“Na-excite lang ako nung malaman ko na magkakaroon ng Jollibee rito. Pumunta ako dito kahit apat na oras ang biyahe,” said customer James Abanilla in an interview with ABS CBN News.
[I was excited when I learned that Jollibee will open here, even if I had to travel four hours.]
“I know that it’s good so we want to taste again,” said Frank Fausch from Switzerland who also said he and his family traveled five hours to Milan.
According to data from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, the country is home to the seventh biggest population of expatriate Filipino workers.
And included in that data is the all-Filipino crew with their innate hospitality which runs in their blood.
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III hopes the food company would expand to other parts of Europe in the future and bring more job opportunities to Filipinos.
“It is a symbol of Filipino ingenuity. Talagang kayang-kaya nating iharap ang galing natin sa entrepreneurship,” he said. [We can really hold our own when it comes to entrepreneurship.]
