World junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas may have steel-hard punches but he also has a soft heart. He decided to help give his sparring partners a better sleeping quarters with his bonus.
Ancajas received P1-million check from businessman Manny V. Pangilinan for bringing home the World junior bantamweight belt. The money will be used to renovate Survival Camp, Ancajas’ training center in Magallanes, Cavite.
Ancajas’ trainer Joven Jimenez told ABS-CBN that they will first prioritize the matting of their boxing ring as well as the improvement of the sleeping quarters. He adds there are 15 boxers staying at the camp.
Ancajas revealed that his sparring mates are like his “brothers” and he feels the sacrifices they endure to stay in the camp and be far from their families.
He said, “Malaking sakripisyo rin sa kanila na nasa camp kasi malayo sila sa pamilya. Parang kapatid na rin ang turing ko sa kanila kaya ganu’n na lang ang pagpapahalaga ko sa kanila.”
[It’s a big sacrifice for them to stay at the camp because they’re far from their families. The are like brothers to me that’s the reason why I valued them so much.]
