Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif was warmly welcomed by President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang during his courtesy call.
Prince Abdulaziz, who is also Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Interior, had “warm and cordial talks” with the President about topics concerning the two countries.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said President Duterte and the Saudi prince discussed about strengthening cooperation between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia. Roque was quoted by Inquirer saying, “The President said there is a need to expand cooperation across many fields, especially in security, trade and investment, as well as in promoting the rights, safety and well-being of Filipinos.”
The Prince also praised Duterte’s “decisive action” during the Marawi siege. Roque’s statement continued, “The Prince conveyed the deep respect of the Saudi King for the President’s strong and decisive action that led to the liberation of Marawi from extremists and terrorists.”
The prince said that King Salman, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, sent his warm wishes and reiterated that the Philippines remains important to Saudi Arabia.
