“I’m back!”

These were the words that were first said by actor and former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger after waking up from a heart surgery to replace a valve that was originally replaced 20 years ago.

Famous for the catchphrase “I’ll be back,” the 70-year-old actor turned activist was brought to a Los Angeles hospital on March 29 to have the valve replaced.

According to a story posted by Huffington Post, the actor’s spokesman Daniel Ketchell disclosed that Schwarzenegger is now recovering and in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.

Based on the report, the original replacement pulmonic valve which Schwarzenegger received in 1997 outlasted its life expectancy. Hence, the actor opted to undergo valve replacement by catheter.

“That 1997 replacement valve was never meant to be permanent, and has outlived its life expectancy, so he chose to replace it yesterday through a less-invasive catheter valve replacement,” Ketchell was quoted saying in another report published by Washington Post.

Schwarzenegger’s career in the entertainment industry started with the sword-and-sorcery epic Conan the Barbarian in 1982, a box-office hit that resulted in a sequel. After that, he appeared in the title role of James Cameron’s critically and commercially successful science-fiction thriller film The Terminator in 1984. Subsequently, the Terminator character was reprised in the franchise’s later installments: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), and Terminator Genisys (2015). He also appeared in a number of successful films like Commando (1985), The Running Man (1987), Predator (1987), Twins (1988), Total Recall (1990), Kindergarten Cop (1990), and True Lies (1994).

Born in Austria, Schwarzenegger began weight training at the age of 15. He won the Mr. Universe title at age 20 and went on to win the Mr. Olympia contest seven times before he plunged into his acting career.

He then went into politics, and was elected governor of California as a Republican in 2003 and 2006.
