The new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said on Thursday that he wants provincial and city police directors to also conduct surprise inspections, like what he did when he was NCRPO chief.
Previous head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO,) Albayalde is known for his wee-hours surprise visits to police stations around the Metro Manila area wherein several cops were caught sleeping-on-duty or under the influence of alcohol.
“As much as I enjoy conducting surprise inspections, I may not be able to reach all of our 2,766 police stations nationwide… so I expect our Provincial and City Directors to conduct these surprise inspections to regularly assess the operational readiness of our forces on the ground. I will be accessible 24/7 and I expect all our commanders to be accessible anytime of the day too,” Albayalde said during his speech in the PNP change of command ceremony.
In a Facebook post, he also said that he will lead by example.
“We will impose and breathe discipline 24/7. We will show respect to ourselves and the public,” he added.
