6 people died while 17 were injured — including children — after lightning hit the tree above them in Sipalay City on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the authorities, several sugarcane harvesters along with their children were taking a rest after lunch time when the rain poured.
To avoid becoming very wet, they sought shelter underneath a tree.
However, to their shock a lightning struck the tree.
Six of them were declared d**d upon arrival at the Sipalay Hospital.
The others are currently being given medical treatment.
