- Richard Wahl of Vernon, New Jersey came forward as the winner of the $533 million Mega Millions
- He opted to take $324 million in cash now rather than the full value in installments over 30 years
Richard Wahl only bought two Mega Millions lottery in his 47 years; the first one was a dud but the second one brought him around $533 million dollars!
Wahls lottery winning is the fourth largest in the game’s history and one of the 10 largest jackpots ever.
“It’s not only life-changing money for me, but I want it to be life-changing money for others,” he told reporters on Friday.
“Family, friends, people in need. So we’re going to try to do some good things with it.”
According to USA Today, the 47-year-old resident of Vernon Township, N.J., bought his Mega Millions ticket, worth $533 million, the day before the March 30 drawing at a convenience store located on a route to work. He opted to take $324 million in cash now rather than the full value in installments over 30 years.
“We’re a humble family, and we’re going to keep our roots,” Wahl said Friday as lottery officials presented his oversized check. “We are not the type to run out and spend all the money and have a great time and party it up.”
