MANILA, Philippines – An overseas Filipino woker (OFW), who only wanted to settle the grudge between his son and the latter’s enemy, ended up being killed with an ax.
The victim was identified as Efren Cornejo, a 52-year-old OFW who was scheduled to fly back to Dubai this month; while the suspect is reportedly a man named Jhomel Marasigan, 19 years old and a working as a helper at Sitio Kultihan, Barangay Buenavista West, Candelaria in Quezon province
As per GMA News, Marasigan and one of Cornejo’s sons reportedly had a misunderstanding. On Saturday night, the victim went on to talk with the suspect to settle the grudge between the two.
Witnesses said they even saw the elder Cornejo and Marasigan shook hands after a brief discussion.
But while the victim was boarding his motorcycle, Marasigan followed him from behind and struck the OFW with an axe.
The victim was hit in the head and body and died minutes later.
Marasigan fled on foot but authorities recovered the axe the suspect used in killing Cornejo.
Police have now launched a hot pursuit operation to capture the suspect who will be charged with murder.
