MANILA, Philippines – Host-actor Vhong Navarro is presently recovering from his injuries after he was allegedly tied up and beaten by a group of men inside a condominium unit in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. According to his manager, Chito Rono, the incident happened last Wednesday, January 22.
Film directot Chito Rono confirmed in a statement given to ABS-CBN News last Friday that the host-actor was invited by a female friend to visit her condominium unit in Taguig. Immediately after arriving within the premises of the condominium, several men allegedly blindfolded Navarro, and then beat him up.
Rono also said that Navarro was threatened and had been a victim of extortion that same day, adding that the exact reason behind the attack was still unknown.
Navarro will temporarily be absent on his noontime show “It’s Showtime,” which airs weekdays and Saturdays, and also on his other television projects, as he continues to recover. Navarro was absent from the said noontime program on Thursday and Friday.
Still speaking with ABS-CBN News, Rono added that Navarro may need to undergo an operation due to his injuries. He also said that the actor was unable to give details of the incident as he cannot speak properly at the present time.
The 37-year-old actor is known to have a non-showbiz girlfriend right now, and has two sons from his previous relationships.
Here is Rono’s full statement:
“Si Vhong Navarro ay naimbitihan sa isang condominium unit sa Fort ng isang kaibigang babae. At sa di pa malamang kadahilanan, siya ay piniringan, pinagtulungang bugbugin, ginapos, tinakot, at hinihingan ng pera ng isang grupo ng kalalakihan noong January 22, Miyerkules.
“Si Vhong ay kasalukuyang nagpapagaling at mawawala ng pansamantala sa ‘It’s Showtime’ at iba pa niyang proyekto.”
