In a speech before the world leaders, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem claimed that ‘his government is fighting a war against al-Qaida – linked militants who eat human hearts and dismember people while they are still alive, then send their limbs to family members.’
He likewise claimed before the United Nations General Assembly that the United States, Britain and France forestall the disclosure of the real perpetrators behind the chemical weapons attack, which he alleged was done by the opposition.
He also accused that some nations are supplying the ‘terrorists’ with chemical weapons, although he did not specify which one. This is contrary to US President’s Barack Obama’s allegations in a forum several days ago that it was President Bashar Al Assad’s government forces who carried out the attacks last August that killed hundreds of civilians including children that almost brought the world to the brink of war, following US threats of retaliation.
Walid al-Moallem stated in his speech that,
“The scenes of murder, manslaughter and eating human hearts were shown on TV screens, but did not touch blind consciences” …
“There are innocent civilians whose heads are put on the grill just because they violate the extremist ideology and deviant views of al-Qaida. In Syria … there are murderers who dismember human bodies into pieces while still alive and send their limbs to their families, just because those citizens are defending a unified and secular Syria.”
A video published last May showed a member of Syrian rebel group hacking a soldier’s body with a knife then eating the heart afterwards. The said video draw condemnation from different human rights groups around the world and even from a Syrian opposition group (Syrian National Council)
The Syrian minister also made mention of another video showing rebels grilling the head of a soldier.
(One such video was found by Kicker Daily News, which was uploaded on Youtube under the account name, alan duncan: FSA Cannibalism: terrorist eat heart of a dead Syrian soldier in the name of freedom. However, due to its very sensitive nature, we strongly advice against anyone with a weak heart from watching the disturbing video)
As Syrian rebels advanced and gain more territories, reports of several human rights violation like summary executions committed by the group continue to rise. This also places the West’s intention to arm and train the opposition against Assad’s regime in a sticky and complicated position.
Mr. Moallem added that his country is seeking a peaceful and political solution to end the internal conflict which he described as a ‘war against terror’ and not a civil war as the world call it.
“Our commitment to a political solution does not mean watching our mosques and churches destroyed, as is happening in Homs and Aleppo, and is happening now in the town of Maaloula, the only place in the world whose people still speak the language of Jesus Christ.”
