MANILA, Philippines – After a night of drinking a woman went home to an irate live-in partner that resulted in a screaming match.
In less than half-an-hour, 23-year-old Kimberly Hernandez was found d**d inside her room in Tondo, Manila just after midnight last Monday with a knife sticking from her throat.
Earlier, Kimberly, her sister Daniella and another unidentified friend had a drinking spree. They arrived home at 12:30 a.m.
After a while, neighbors heard Kimberly screaming, but dismissed it since the scream lasted only for a brief period of time.
They said they thought it was just a lovers’ quarrel between the victim and her common-law husband, Dennis Ryan Pangan.
At 1 a.m., Daniella went to her sister’s room to return the DVD player and the speaker they used in their drinking session. She was shocked to find Kimberly l******s and lying on her own blood.
Police investigator SPO3 Glenzor Vallejo said the victim also sustained more than 20 stab wounds in her face and neck.
Vallejo identified Pangan, 24, as the primary suspect.
Pangan, who allegedly works as a busboy in a food chain in Avenida, Manila, was seen by a friend a few blocks away from the crime scene carrying a backpack.
Joel Sarmiento said he thought Pangan was acting suspicious. Fearing that the suspect might have robbed somebody in the neighborhood, Sarmiento alerted the barangay authorities.
Authorities caught Pangan three hours after the crime was discovered. The suspect, however, insisted that he was innocent.
“Despite a witness seeing him running away from the crime scene, Pangan still blatantly denies killing his partner,” Vallejo said.
Pangan’s shirt allegedly still has traces of blood and he “”also had bite and scratch marks on his arms,” the police officer said.
Kimberly’s friends told the police that the victim and the suspect were constantly fighting, especially after Kimberly had caught Pangan womanizing twice.
