MANILA, Philippines – Another pageant crown has been won by a Filipina. Twenty year old Angeli Dione Gomez, from Cebu put an overwhelming year-end conclusion for this year’s beauty contest history, as she was crowned Miss Tourism International, in a pageant held on New Year’s Eve in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The Philippines’ latest beauty queen won in the last beauty pageant of the calendar year, beating both Thailand’s Sunidporn Srisuwan and Malaysia’s Sarah Czarnuch, who placed second and third, respectively. This year’s competition was joined by 60 candidates from different parts of the globe.

“The first thing I plan to do is to meet my family, whom I have not met for about one month, and have a nice breakfast with them tomorrow,” Gomez said in a report from New Straits Times.

Notably, Gomez is the third Filipina to win the Miss Tourism International crown, which is now a back-to-back win with Rizzini Alexis Gomez, who won the same crown last year. Miss Tourism International was won by Maria Esperanza Manzano last 2000. With three crowns under its belt, the Philippines now leads the Miss Tourism International tally board for most crowns won. India and Poland follows both on second place with 2 crowns each.

The New Straits Times also reported that as part of Gomez’s function, she “will be tasked as (a) traveling ambassador in promoting informal international relations between countries to spread the message of peace, goodwill, and friendship.”

Gomez’s victory is the latest in a string of victories for the Philippines in international beauty pageants, adding to powerhouse beauty queens who finished their respective competitions with good standings.

Among the notable Filipina pageant victors this year are Megan Young (Miss World), Mutya Johanna Datul (Miss Supranational), and Bea Rose Santiago (Miss International).
