MANILA, Philippines – Tanya Winona Bautista, the non-showbiz girlfriend of Vhong Navarro, faced ABS-CBN News’ cameras in a rare moment last Tuesday.
Bautista, who had kept a low profile throughout their reported five-year relationship, agreed on an interview as the actor-host continues to recover from serious injuries he sustained in last week’s attack in Taguig City.
Bautista was reported to be at Navarro’s side in his hospital room, shortly before the “It’s Showtime” host made his sworn statement in relation to a mauling incident last January 22.
The incident left the actor and TV host with serious injuries, including a broken nose that required reconstructive surgery.
Navarro has been evasive on discussing about Bautitsa in media interviews, saying it is the actor’s way of protecting his girlfriend from showbiz intrigues.
But in Navarro’s first interview about the incident, aired last Sunday on Buzz ng Bayan, a very emotional Navarro thanked Bautista for standing by him despite the accusations against him in relation to the incident.
“Talagang hindi niya ako pinabayaan. Hindi niya muna inisip sarili niya, kung ano’ng mararamdaman niya, kung ano’ng magiging reaction niya. Siyempre, pumunta po ako, e. Ang iniisip niya ako parin, e,” the emotional actor told host Boy Abunda.
(“She really didn’t let me down. She didn’t think of herself, or what she was feeling, or what her reactions would be. Of course, I went there [Cornejo’s condo], but she still thinks about my welfare.”)
“Sobrang humingi po ako ng tawad, na sana bigyan niya pa ako ng chance. Gusto ko sabihin sa kanya — hindi ako rapist. Hinding-hindi ko magagawa ‘yun,” he said at the time.
(I sincerely asked forgiveness from her, hoping that she will give me a chance I wanted to say to her – I’ am not a rapist. I can never do that.)
In the actor’s formal complaint filed last Tuesday, Navarro identified eight people, including businessman Cedric Lee and model Deniece Cornejo, behind the attack that happened inside a condominium unit at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
Earlier last Tuesday, Lee accused Navarro of “twisting the facts,” saying that the host’s account of the incident was a complete exaggeration.
Meanwhile, Cornejo had maintained a stand that Navarro attempted to rape her and that she will file the appropriate charges against him.
