This news article will surely bring some cheers to Filipino parents all over the world.
A recent survey on the behavior of Filipino teenagers today has shown that members of the young generation are smoking and drinking less today.
Based on the survey made by the Demographic Research & Development Foundation and the University of Philippines Population Institute, they found out that the current drug use, drinking alcohol and smoking among young Filipinos aged 15 to 24 have dropped.
On the data gathered by the research company the number of smokers has declined from 20.9% in 2002 to 19.7% in 2013. The research company also discovered that teen drinkers has dropped 4% and 7% from 2002, respectively.
Survey director Dr. Nimfa Ogena said the drop in the number of teen smokers and drinkers could be due to the fact that these vices has become more expensive or they have just become more responsible these days.
Despite the positive result of their survey, Ogena revealed the same survey has shown that majority of young Filipinos include instant noodles, grilled street food, chips and carbonated drinks in their weekly diet.
Ogena said from the 19,000 teenagers they surveyed 68 of whom admitted consuming carbonated drinks at least once a week, with more than half of the respondents admitting that they include instant noodles, chips and grilled street food in their diet.
She hoped the result of their survey will inspire more Filipino teenagers to live a healthy life for them to live longer and reach their potentials when they reach the adult life.
