“Never won best actor in the Philippines. But certainly felt sweet winning it here in the states,” Jake Cuenca tweeted after winning the 2014 International Film Festival Manhattan’s Best Actor Feature award at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Consulate General in New York last October 23, reports ABS-CBN News.
Cuenca won the award for his stellar performance on “Mulat” (international title: “Awaken”), an independent film directed by Diane Ventura. Ventura also garnered the Best Director for a Global Feature Award.
On his Instagram account, the actor posted a photo of him and Ventura holding their certificates. The actor captioned the post with, “Yup, that just happened! To God be the glory, this is my first international award and I just won best actor.”
Cuenca has never won as “Best Actor” in the Philippines, despite several nominations over the years. So, it was natural that the star was super excited about winning the international award.

Liza Diño as Best Actress
Liza Diño, the girlfriend of Aiza Seguerra, was also awarded as Best Actress for her role in “In Nomine Matris”, reports the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP). The story centers on a young lady named Mara (Diño) who works hard to land her first major role in a project.
This is not the first time that Diño won an award in the international film festival. She also garnered the Best Actress award for “Compound” back in the 2011 International Film Festival Manhattan.
